Regional Sections of the Society for Conservation Biology take SCB’s mission and goals and implement them on a regional scale to achieve real results.
By joining the Oceania Section, you can:
network with other conservation professionals in our region
make your voice heard on conservation issues that affect the region
become involved in local conservation initiatives by joining one of our Chapters.
Full membership benefits include discounted rates for SCB conferences and discounted publication fees for SCB’s peer-reviewed journals Conservation Letters and Conservation Science & Practice, free online access to SCB journals for members from developing countries, access to the Conservation Connection Community and much more.

Non-members: You must be a member of SCB to join SCB’s Regional Sections. Click here to join.
SCB members: If you are already an SCB member, login to your Member Homepage and go to your profile page. You will be directed to a page where you can join up to two Sections. Click here for step-by-step instructions.

While most of our members are based within Oceania (Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands, including Hawaii), anyone is welcome to join. SCB members may join two regional sections, which might reflect their home region and a focal area for their research.

If you are already a member of the global Society for Conservation Biology, membership of the Oceania Section is free.
SCB membership dues are dependent upon your income, and start at $30 per year. You can become an Associate Member for no cost.

Nominate yourself to join our Board.
Nominations for the SCB Oceania Section Board of Directors open in April each year, and successful candidates are elected to the board following a ballot of our members. It’s a great opportunity to work alongside wonderful colleagues and grow your professional network too!

Attend one of our conferences.
Our conferences bring together the community of conservation professionals from across our region, and have a fun and friendly atmosphere, with plenty of opportunities to network and socialise with your colleagues.

Join a Chapter.
Chapters provide a way for our members to become involved in local conservation initiatives. Some Chapters focus on a single city, county, or campus; others cover broader geographic areas from state to national levels. See whether there is a Chapter near where you live
If there isn’t, you could start one!

Apply for a student award.
Each year, SCBO awards prizes for the best student publication and conference presentation. It’s a great way to get your research out there, boost your CV and win SCB membership or registration to an upcoming SCB conference!

Join our Policy Working Group.
In addition to preparing our own policy statements, SCB Oceania frequently signs or authors policy statements relating to issues that we think are important to our membership. Watch our website and social media for specific calls to contribute, or if you have an idea for a policy submission that you think we should make, please get in touch.
